What Is Reality?

What's Reality???
Is it the image that you see on a day to day basis or the virtual reflections from cyberspace?
I know that we all know someone with an internet personality that may not be visible when you encounter them. Is this a problem and how is this effecting lives in the black community?

  1. What is reality?

That is an extremely valid question. I have seen the guys on the internet call themselves the names of rappers and rehearse the lines used in their songs by displaying them on their profiles. In that motion, the identity of that person is lost and they don’t even realize that they have become someone else. I have seen the females who have took “picnik” and “photobucket” to the extreme, so that when you encounter them on the streets they are unrecognizable. In no way am I downplaying the enhancement of photos but people actually lose themselves in the process. The guy becomes a total bad-boy when he actually enjoys drawing action figures. The female becomes ultra perfect and flawless when she is actually human. There is an undeniable transformation from daily encounters to cyber nights.

What’s reality? I feel as if the line between reality and what is false has become so confused and complicated. None of us want to embrace regularity. We all want to fit in but also stand out. Have you ever heard someone say, “I had those Jordan’s last year?” or “Is that polo or just a regular collar shirt?” We are in constant competition with one another. Therefore we have to have the best and now it has become so contagious that we have to look the best. So this mentality has found its way into our use of the internet.

The reality is we are not comfortable in our own skin. We have lost that link to satisfaction regarding who we are. Therefore we create these web personalities they are inaccurate and misleading. We hide our flaws into these tangible effects that are falsifying our contentment.
